Veterinary Technology education has hit the Internet in this age of
technology. St. Petersburg College offers students across the United States a
unique opportunity to earn an Associate in Science degree* in Veterinary Technology
through its Distance Education program. It is designed especially for veterinary
hospital employees who are unable to relocate or give up daytime jobs.
The difference between on-site and distance learning is in the
method of interaction with students, not the content or the desired outcome. Credits
earned by distance education are the same as those earned on campus. Students may
mix distance education courses with on-site courses to better accommodate work and family
obligations.
*An Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is ideal for students
who wish to prepare for a career that requires training beyond high school, though not a
four-year institutions, although the general education credits transfer and some of the
courses in the major may be used for electives.
How it works
Online students take general education courses at a local community
college or university, or may transfer education courses from previous college work.
The Veterinary Technology courses are conducted in the evening via a computer
network, while laboratory courses are completed in animal hospitals or clinics under the
supervision of veterinarians and graduate technicians.
Special requirements
Lecture final exams are proctored by a local community college.
Because the online class meetings are in the evenings, it is best for students to
have a computer at home. A Macintosh or a PC with Windows is recommended.
Selected admission
Preference in the selective admission process is given to students
who:
